Listening to the radio – folks talking about words. One problematic pronunciation is for folks pronouncing website names.
double-you, double-you, double-you … 9 syllables, awkward
dub dub dub …. 3 syllables – better
Three-Dub … OK – maybe this one isn’t used – just throwin’ it out for consideration.
The "www" is not only largely unpronounceable but also pointless. My guess is that it will soon be filed with "under construction", "home page" and the animated gif as a nostalgic quirk of the early web.
When was the last time you visited a web site which actually required you to type the "www" subdomain? When was the last time you heard anything but the basic domain name mentioned in a TV ad?
Thanks Frank. You're absolutely right.
I still think there are folks out there (not advertisers any more, as you point out) who still think mentioning www is an important component in sharing a url.
The post was in response to a radio program discussing the variants. Perhaps this post would have been more relevant two or three years ago.
